Do dogs get jealous?

I’m browsing the net yesterday and this caught my attention, simply because I find it cute!

“Anyone with two dogs will probably tell you that dogs definitely feel jealousy—and it’s true! A recent study confirmed that your pet gets a little miffed when you start petting other dogs on the side.
Subjects in the study were asked to give love and attention to objects while filming their dog’s reactions. The items were a stuffed dog, a jack-o-lantern, and a pop-up book. The participants would give attention to the plush and pumpkin, and then read from the book. Scientists recorded the reactions of the dogs and looked for jealous signs such as pushing the owner or snapping. The study found that dogs displayed many jealous tendencies and made attempts to break the owner away from the rival. They were most threatened by the stuffed dog and least threatened by the book.”

They definitely do! Many behavioral studies such as the one you found show evidence for jealousy-like emotions from dogs, and this is something you could easily test out yourself if you have multiple dogs, though I don't recommend unnecessarily distressing your pups!

A study by scholars at the University of California, San Diego found that dogs showed jealous behaviors when their owners displayed affection toward an animatronic stuffed dog that barked, whined and wagged its tail. The dogs snapped at and pushed against the stuffed dog and tried to get between it and the human.
This may come as no surprise to any owner of multiple pooches who has seen them jostle for space on someone's lap. And it's not unusual for people to assign human feelings to their dogs, whose baleful eyes seem like deep pools of emotion when compared with those of, say, cats.
