    Cool Dog Coprophagia

Anybody here who had dogs experience this? What did you do to stop it?

Jakey was really bad for this, I changed him over to a raw diet, problem solved for us.......There are other things you can try - adding courgette/pineapple to the dogs food is what most people recommend. Personally I think if your dog is eating its own poop then the food being fed is not being digested properly, and rather than add this and that I would suggest you try a different food. If you are unlucky enough to have a dog eating other dogs poops whilst out on walks, then the most you can do is really work at teaching your dog to "leave."

I've read somewhere it could be a symptom of anxiety, stress or boredom. I'm not so sure if any of these reasons why my ret had this over a year ago. I had to be really stern with him in "leaving" it. I also had to make sure that there are not poops around every time he eats because he might see it and take it instead of his real food. It was a bit hard at times but you gotta do what you gotta do to help him.

I had a heck of a time with this with my last dog, but my current two, thankfully, don't do this. I still have no clue on the 'why' or how to stop it. I'm just grateful it's not a current issue. Good luck!

We had a dog with this problem when I was a child (long ago!). That was a Jack Russell Terrier and she refused to eat ant meat at all. We took her to the vet many times and tried all sorts of ways to get her to eat meat but she refused. She would only eat fruit vegetable and grain. The vet worked out a special diet for her and she had some sort of supplement in it. The special diet cured the problem.

I was a bit successful in using the meat tenderizer on the poop. it lessened but was still there. I'm making sure everybody in the house helps clear of the poop just to make sure the he doesn't eat them when he sees it!

Angry First Experience with my dog this week

I thought this was an isolated issue and that I would have to take her to therapy. I did not know that this is a common problem with young dogs. I adopted this cutie this year when my daughter and I found these stray puppies. But the fact is that as a young dog she is attracted to decaying flesh???? and this week poop whether hers or other dogs. I hate it when other owners don't clean up after their dogs. Until she stops this habit I'm going to walk her with a muzzle cause she's very quick.

I'm frustrated when I see other owners who don't clean up after their pets! The muzzle seems a good idea for the mean time if you're going out.
