When we talk about obsessive behaviors like tail chasing or fly chasing is it really that big of a deal? If so, why?

I don't think it is a big deal unless the dog takes it to extremes, like chasing his tail till his paws are sore. I think every dog deserves a little fun time. LOL
Chasing tails is not a fun thing. It's a compulsion and the dog has a problem. However, this is not a training problem. You won't be able to hire a trainer to teach your dog not to chase his tail. He already knows that. If I were you, I'd talk to a CERTIFIED animal behaviorist. Be sure this person is certified and has an animal behavior degree from a reputable college.

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring-it was peace. - Milan Kundera
^ i've always thought tail chasing is something usual for dogs to do. like humans scratching their head if thinking or swinging legs while sitting down. Thanks for this tip, Bill.
