\r\n <!-' + '- google_ad_section_start -' + '->His chewing could be related to stress/anxiety, insufficient exercise, or many other factors. Are there any patterns you notice to the times he chews? How have you tried redirecting or replacing the problem behavior (chewing the furniture) with an acceptable behavior (chewing a toy, doing a trick to receive attention or a treat, etc)? Addressing other factors in his life or working to modify his behavior in a positive manner may prove more effective over the long-term than pepper, tabasco, or other aversive techniques.

\r\nIf you really feel that you\'ve gone through the various training methods without success and that there is nothing in his environement that could be causing his behavior, there are also chew-deterrent products on the market, such as Grannick\'s Bitter Apple. These might be gentler on your furniture and your pup\'s tongue. Of course, there\'s one dog in every crowd who ends up loving the taste but most are completely repulsed by it.

Rat Terrier still chews on furniture

Our rat terrier is 3 years old and still chews on furniture. I read the article about chewing and discovered cayenne pepper and tabasco. He has plenty of toys to play with. The pepper sounds like it might work.
