7 Month German Shep ate the comforter and tried to bite...

Hi everyone... I haven't had to post in a while, however I feel the need today. My fiance and I went to Ottawa for five days in total for a wedding we had our landlord take care of her during that time. She sees him ever day so we figured she'd be fine we kept in touch while we were away he said besides escaping from her crate she was fine. Now that were back she's been REALLY bad not listening barking jumping completely opposite behavior. My fiance works the night shift 3pm-4am and he called me this morning saying when he got home he put her in the room with him (with 2 bones and a toy) and woke up finding she had completely destroyed the comforter obviously upset he went to put her in the crate and she went to bite him (she was showing her teeth so I assume this is aggressive). He's really upset and this is like the last straw with him. I don't want to get rid of her I don't understand why she's acting like this please help!!!!!! Is she confused? what is causing this sudden change in behavior?

Hi Dee and Mikey, the puppy does not see your boyfriend as a pack leader but does see him as a subordinate member in the pack. There are few things that both of you can do to change this behaviour. When providing food to your puppy always ensure that you and your boyfriend have eaten first. Make your puppy sit and wait until you give the okay before she/he can eat the food that you give. When entering or leaving a building or going through a gate have your puppy sit and wait until you have gone through the entrance area so your puppy is the last one through. When playing with a toy with your pup whoever is playing starts the game by giving the puppy the toy and ends the game by taking the toy and putting it away. When walking your puppy always ensure that the puppy is beside you or behind you unless you are allowing her/him to sniff. You also might want to look into different collars for your puppy to use as training tools. I don't know if you've taken the puppy for obedience training and even if you have you may want to check out Olympus K9 in Orangeville and Brampton. I know that they might be far for you to travel, but maybe Olympus could recommend a training facility in your area. I recommend Olympus K9 because I took my dog there who had fear aggression and I could not walk her past anyone without her lunging and barking at them. After only 2 sessions with the owner of Olympus K9 I could walk her past anyone without a problem.

My younger sister was also having the same issue as you have but it should be noticed that all dogs do not bite due to aggressiveness only but they will bite out of fear, rather than aggression. Dogs that feel threatened or unsure will respond by biting as a self-defence mechanism. A surprised dog will bite. If you approach a dog unexpectedly or he doesn't hear you coming, his instinct might be to bite out of fear. Dogs that haven't been properly behavior-trained and socialized are more likely to bite.

Hence you can also consult to a good trainer as my sister did. Actually she got her pup trained from Boom Towne and found the good result. Hope for the good things for you too :).
