HI, MY DOG EATS GRASS ALL DAY LONG ,BUT HE IS NEVER SICK ,CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THANKS .
eddie,
Is he actually chewing and swallowing it? If he's just pulling it up & then spitting it out, its a puppy thing. My 8 week old puppy does that when he goes outside sometimes. If he's actually swallowing it, I have no idea why other than upset stomach. At least that's what I always heard...
Most dogs eat grass from time to time. No one really knows why. I suspect it's because it tastes good. My dogs do it more in the spring when the fresh grass comes up. It's not a big deal. Don't worry about it.
My dog eats grass occasionally. Is your dog healthy and energetic? If so it maybe nothing to worry about but if you have any concern about the dog's health get the vet to check him over.
Are you worried about it? I don't think eating grass means very much, most dogs do it, but if you think it may suggest that your dog has a health problem perhaps you should take the dog to be checked by the vet.
It always bothers me, but I know better than to worry about it too much,. I will watch to see if they throw up, which indicates there might be something going on, illness wise.
I don't think throwing up means anything. Mine throw it up most of the time along with a yellow stomach juice. If they don't throw it up, it comes out the other end still in blades except its twisted together in a little rope. Wonder how they do that? :)
Such attention to detail Bill! We have hardly any carpet downstairs in our house but you can bet that if she eats grass and decides to throw up it will be on carpet and not on the laminate floor where it would be much easier to clean up.
Ease of cleanup has never been a priority of any dog I've known. ;)
Same here Bill... Actually I have known dogs that prefer to make messes on carpet rather than tile or laminate floor. I would swear they do it because it is harder to clean up, but I know the real reason is because carpet is more comfortable on their feet than laminate flooring, just like our feet.
As for the grass eating, thank you to everyone for their responses besides mine. It relieves me to know that it is normal for them to eat grass even when they aren't puppies or have an upset stomach.
My dogs also eat grass a lot. Sometimes the grass seems to make them throw up and sometimes it doesn't. I doesn't seem to really hurt them, though.
