Oh yeah! Always and forever. I grew up with a beagle in my bed and over the years, I've had as many as three on the bed at the same time. Love it!
My cats sleep on the bed with me. The dogs sleep on pads on the floor next to the bed.
I've done it with Shar-Peis in the past but I don't do it with Rocky or Jasper. Rocky because he sleeps with my teenager & Jasper because he's too short to jump up on the bed by himself & because he sleeps with the little ones. One of my cats sleeps with me most of the night, the others are usually somewhere in the room too.
LOL, well now, no one in this house sleeps all night on the bed with us. There are mattresses and duvets on the floor for the dogs. When it is really hot, the boxers sleep downstairs, we have a ceiling fan in the main room and we leave that on for them all night. I do miss Roddy's snoring though - lol, but when it is hot, the upstairs bedroom seems to get stiffling hot and both the boxers just pant and pant and no one gets any sleep at all - most times I end up getting up about 2 or 3 in the morning and showering them down! Far easier for us all to let them sleep downstairs. I swear Jakey sleepwalks - lol, we leave the bedroom door open and he seems to spend much of the night sleeping here then wandering round and sleeping there. In the morning, all the dogs get on the bed for cuddle time - best way to start the day!
Absolutely not, they all have their own beds and their own space. I don't allow any of my animals into the bedrooms. It is bad enough with my husband stealing all the duvet without animals pushing me out of bed!
No, my dog doesn't sleep with me, she has her own bed but she usually sleeps with the cat.
I know what you mean, lol. I don't know why our two dogs sleep the whole night with us. They just act like that's where they are supposed to sleep. The two dogs that we had before them (both of whom passed away from old age and cancer) would jump up on the bed for some petting when we went to bed but as soon as we stopped petting they got down and slept elsewhere. Not these two. Jasmine sleeps above our heads on our pillows and Nicole sleeps toward the foot of the bed.
We have a cat that venture upstairs to meow outside our bedroom door asking for his breakfast - at 5.30am!!
We have a pack of 7, and only one is less than 100lbs (my Boxer) so if all of them slept with us, it would be a disaster! But, two of them do every night, and then we alternate a third. I just can't imagine them not.
I'm the same way, DanePaws. They have been sleeping with us for 3 years. At this point, I cannot imagine them NOT sleeping with us!
I guess it just depends on your personal preferences. I didn't even encourage my kids to sleep in our bed unless they'd had a bad dream or something like that. I need my sleep and I don't want to be pushed out of bed by a dog.
Kids are different from pets. I wouldn't even connect the two personally.
I like my bed, and I don't share my space with any pets!
lol I like my bed, and my pets do, too! It's a decades-long tradition.
I love to have our dogs in our bedroom, but not on the bed... don't care for the doghair and drool on the sheets! They both sleep soundly on their beds in our room and I love to hear their soft (and sometimes not so soft) snoring during the night.
Yeah our little Yorkie has slept with us for 2 years. We love having her in bed with us. Never had a problem with her either!
My rat (a pet name,"no pun" :o rat terrier) has his own pillow, when it gets cool at night, he even pulls the blanket up over his head. I couldn't sleep if he wasn't there.
Since my sister passed her dog to us, I was never the pet type of a person but he grew on me. I guess my sister didn't have him on her bed before that's why he's not used to it. He just snuggles with me, my husband or my baby but sleeps in his own bed in our room.
There's no rule on the subject fortunately but I can't even conceive of not snuggling with my babies.
DanePaws, just the thought of that is scary, I like my bed too much to share it with pets, but they all have their own very nice beds.
There wouldn't be room for me if they all slept on the bed! But we trade off - one or two sleep on the bed every night. I love having them on the bed!
Kate and the K9s
Miya is always on my bed. But if I for some reason sit on the floor she looks at me like I'm crazy and jumps down and curls into a ball next to me.
Soft is where it's at!
I'm always on the floor, Buster will push a pillow down from the bed or sofa to sit or lay on beside me.
I must be crazy too, ;) .
My sister made being on the bed a special occasion for her dogs. She has a favorite story for one of her dogs when it was storming out and one of her big dogs came and just stared at her in bed. She let her up and laughs that her dog really snuggled in close to her. "Big baby" she teased as she held her.
The one who would like to break the house rules and come onto my bed is my cat, but there is no way that is happening. He is only the usual size for a cat, but when he sits next to me on the Sofa he puts all his weight against me until he has loads of room and I have none - he would probably push me out of bed if he got the chance!
That is the thing with cats, they may know the house rules, but given half a chance they would be happy to break the rules.
The snooze button is a big deal at my house. I tap it once in awhile just to see if it's working. I hunker down and wait for the "fun". My little dog tries to dig me out from under the covers, and the cat sits on my head making bread. I try really hard to just lay there and not laugh.
Syn after reading that I think I should train my pets to wake my teenage son up in the mornings - maybe they would have more success than I do!
Now that's an idea! Why didn't I think of that before?
Dogs never sleep in beds or on the couches in my home. While I love the family pets, I can't tolerate their smells on surfaces I use on a regular basis.
I also believe that training is easier if the dog knows his place in the pack, and I feel that allowing them on the bed elevates their social status.
Sagemother, I can see what you mean. I love my pets very much but they do not go in the bedrooms or on the beds. They have very comfortable beds of their own. I just don't want to share my bed and I don't want my bedroom covered in pet hair.
Yes!. Dogs really loved sleeping in the place where they are comfortable, and typically for all the dogs sleep with their owners.
Our shih tzu - poodle Fluffy sleeps with my son. They've been buddies since he was still a pup. When we had Hummer, a labrador retriever, we thought it would be best if he doesn't join them as it may cause some agitation and aggression. Hummer is happy to be sleeping on his own bed at night.
We had our first female pup sleep with us during her first few months. She's with us for almost 5 years. Occasionally, we have her sleep with us. But most of the times, we can't stand her smell (especially when it's been a long time since her bath). If she wants to always sleep with us, she should learn to love taking a bath haha :D
No, my dogs don't sleep with me as they have their own bed. But I think there's nothing wrong with letting your pet sleep beside you. I actually find it pretty cool as it symbolizes that we really treat them as part of our family!
I have a street dog and she is sleeping with me on my bad
