The vet says she is at her ideal weight and she is not lacking any minerals or such like in her diet, and she is not bored. Any suggestions on how to stop it please?

She does drool a lot because her lower jaw is too short (a common problem with her breed). She is physically healthy and her teeth are in good condition. I think it is just a habit.

    She is a mature Border Collie, she has been with us since she was about 9 months old and has always done it. She doesn\'t harm the things she licks.

You say she is not bored, so assuming that she is not making herself sore by licking her leg and she is not damaging the things she licks it is probably just an annoying little habit that may be due to her jaw problem.

    Thanks, her mouth and teeth are fine (except for the slight deformity that I mentioned previously) she has her teeth and mouth checked by the vet every year when she gets her jabs, she was checked in May this year.

And need lots of exercise, they live to work (herding) so I would try exercising the dog everyday. And then see if the licking tapers off.     She is a mature border collie, a lot slower than she was. According to the advice I have been given she is getting plenty of exercise and activities to interest her. It goes without saying that she is given exercise every day (at least twice) it would be cruel not to, she also has company and things to keep her occupied.

    Yes my dog enjoys her Kong and another similar toy, but sometimes she just stops, licks the floor or some random thing and then plays some more or does something else.

      Licking

      My dog has an annoying habit of licking things, the floor, the edge of her basket and even her own foot. The vet says she is at her ideal weight and she is not lacking any minerals or such like in her diet, and she is not bored. Any suggestions on how to stop it please?
