Hi, Buddy, 8 weeks old, on dried food from vet, so should have nutrients, is jumping up to pots in garden and loves the soil, its mainly from grow bags.Has anyone else had this problem, is it harmful? also when he comes away from something which is a NO should he have a treat! (THERE are lots of no s}:confused:
Is he eating the soil from your flower pots? If so, I would talk to the vet about it. If he isn't worried, I wouldn't be either. I know dogs love to taste all sorts of things that to us would be absolutely disgusting. Like dirt... My Jasper recently learned how to dig (darn kids teaching him how to do that!) and he decided to try the dirt, he spat it right out so I didn't worry.
Lots of dogs are interested in soil, is he eating the soil or smelling all the rich smells and getting it all over him, or perhaps he may be trying to dig out the pots. Unless he is eating a lot of soil I don't think you need to worry. Dogs love bad smells and many dogs including my own will roll in poo if she gets the chance, her favourit is fox poo - it stinks!
Are you sure the puppy is really eating the soil or is it just playing, puppies like to investigate and they do some very odd things sometimes.

Babies explore things with their mouths and I think puppies do much the same thing. At least you know that is nothing to worry about.
That is good news, he is just a normal puppy doing normal puppy things.
Poo rolling is the past time favorite... My little farm dog gives a new meaning to going green, we have horses, the greener the better. He also tries soil hear and there.Quote:

the worst of all was the time i let him in the back door and immediately booted him out again - i don't know what was all over him but it had been dead for a very long time.
actually, i lie: there was also the time he rolled in some kind of poo - came home with it caked all over his back. this is not typical - he's normally a teflon dog: he can roll in mud and half-hour later he's gleaming and glossy black again. i, naturally, shrieked and threw him in the tub only then to remember that i don't bathe my dog so i had no shampoo. so i grabbed my 3yr old's shampoo instead figuring it's baby shampoo, pretty much the same stuff, right? wrong! he ended up smelling like lavender-scented poo.
