Just curious, do you have dogs who just don't seem to be toy dogs at all? I'm so used to dogs loving toys that it feels odd that my current two have very limited toy taste.

My dearly departed Zack was like that. He just never learned to play except he would pull on a rope if you held it. Nothing else interested in him the least. If i threw the ball to him he would catch it if i hit him in the mouth with it. If he had to move one step to get it, he would just let it go.
Yes my mum has a dog like that, the others all love their toys but one little dog doesn't bother with them at all. She is happy and fun loving but she just doesnt bother with toys.
We once had a dog that wouldn't even play ball, if you through a ball for him he would look at you as if you were a fool. He just sat there and waited for you to go and fetch the ball. He was a happy dog, he just didn't understand toys.
That's how these two are. My youngest does like tug toys, sometimes, and my oldest suddenly took a liking to a couple of squeaky toys given to her last Christmas, but if they spend 3 minutes with them, that's a lifetime.
I guess all dogs are different, I don't think it matters if the dog doesn't like toys as long as the dog is interested and active. In time you may find toys that your dog likes.
Well they are 6 and almost 5 now. My past dogs have at least liked to play ball. I had a golden retriever once who was a toy nut when it came to water toys.
Are they alert and interested generally? If so there is nothing to worry about. The little dog that my mum has that takes no interest in toys races around playing with the cat and she spends hours in the garden 'snail hunting' (she likes to eat snails).
oh yeah! They're plenty active; just not into toys. However, my little one had a big thing for tree logs. I still don't know how she got that thing in her mouth, but she did.
that's mine - he has a rope toy that he falls in love with in fits and starts: he'll be all obsessive over it (shakes it, basically, and smacks himself and everybody else with the knotted end) then he'll ignore it for days and days.
squeaker toys, he gets all maternal - if you squeak it and hold it high, he'll prairie dog with his nose going 90 miles a second but if i try to give it to him, he lets it drop and then sniffs and licks it before walking away. i held it for him to put away in his toy box (he does the "pick up and put away" thing), and he refused to take it. instead, he uses his paw to slap it out of my hand into the box.
his idea of a "toy" is a) tree stumps and rocks, which he plays with, buries, and eats; b) moldy bones; and c) anything that smells of cat pee.
