What do you train for?

I am wondering since I am new here.... What type of training do you train for? Basic, agility, working...

I started agility with a co-worker, since my Rat Terrier is very attentive to me, always eye contact, and he likes the agility itself. I had to stop/slow down his training due to his respiratory tract collapsing (I'm not sure I spelled that correctly) I have read alot about it, and found that it CAN heal itself given time and little aggravation. With time and natural herbs we are working on this, and doing much better, hoping soon to at least find stuff on the lawn and out buildings to jump, run around and crawl through.

LOL - I like your signature Syn............. OK, I do agility with all 3 dogs. I used to go to classes, but the one I liked most closed down, and the only class near me is soooo busy that you hardly get any runs in. I have my own mini agility kit and try and do it with them on my own.

I attend a 'just for fun' training class. I would absolutely LOVE to do awards etc., with my dogs, but all the classes that run awards require me to show proof of vaccination and I refuse point blank to vaccinate my adult dogs, hence I can't do them.

Once a month we have a private tutor that comes and does basic obediance/heelwork with us all, again we do it just for fun/interest. I cannot be bothered with anything competitive.

Same here! All mine gets is the barest minimum-rabies every 3 years.

I spent many years competing in obedience with my 3 Golden Retrievers. The first one took me from Pre-Beginners to winning two B's and then the next one took me from Novice to Ticket. Rudi my last one, unfortunately I lost age 7, just needed one 'qualifier' to reach 'ticket' himself.

Now I have a rescue Lab and have bought a home agility set for fun. I used to go to an agility club many years ago, with my first Lab and first Golden, though we only did the comps at club level. Ruby loves her agility, but this is only for fun. I have been training her for Rally Obedience, but there are none held in this area, so am now going back to training for obedience. We have done one companion show with her, which she led until stays, when she 'fell over' in them. She still ended up 5th, which has made my mind up that she may be worth training. I know with Labs that they aren't really competition dog's, but with todays motivational training, I am hoping that she may make the grade. Whatever, we will have fun, and meeting up with old friends will be good as well.

i'm not too bad with french and that is indeed a salutation to everybody in the forum.

i'm working on my dog's trick dog titles strictly because i'm completely wasted on him as an owner. basically, i'm like the guy who got himself a ferrari just to drive it to work and back. i would LOVE to get him into agility - he'd totally mop the floor with the competition (brag brag) - but the only local trainer prefers small dogs and also requires that i run alongside him which is really not going to happen (if my back allowed it, my knees won't).

he's got his novice trick title and is 2pts away from intermediate but i feel a bit of a fraud: it's so easy to teach him "glamour" tricks like get juice from the fridge or flush the toilet or turn off the light but we're not very solid on the basic obedience at all. so i'm working to try and solidify that.

can't give dandy any: his second shot, he reacted so badly he ended up with a bald spot all around the injection site and the skin was red and crispy-looking. vet said each reaction will be worse and the fatal one would hit at any time. it's possible to isolate the compound he reacts to but quite frankly, i have way better things to spend that kind of money on. a new car, for example.
