How to get my dog to wear his jacket when walking...

I'm new dog owner, i took in my friend's 4 year old shih tzu when he had to move. Its getting cold in the winter and i bought him a jacket. But when the jacket is on the dog he just does't act like himself and won't pee or poop with the jacket on. I have to take it off for him to pee or poop. How do I get him to wear his jacket and act like his regular self ?

Not sure if you received an answer on this but what is used is a technique called desensitization. This is used in helping a dog associate a bad feeling to good slowly. We expose a stimuli that the dog feels bad to slowly and eventually change the conditioned emotional response. It is used with all things a dog in uncomfortable about etc. leash - vacuum.

You start slow with just a sniff of coat treat - noses touch treat- let him lay on it treat- place on back treat - think this gets point across. Go very slow and work at dogs level your furry friend will get use to it over time. Just don't push the dog to fast.

    Hope it helps.
