In the house training post it says to confine your puppy, to have him tied up and just give him 20 mins free to play.... or that's what i understood.

my question is: Does the puppy needs to be tied all day long? like literally all day? and if so doesn't that affect the dog?

Um, that's not exactly what it says. It's a very thorough and detailed post. The point it is trying to make is not that you should tie your dog up all day long. It is saying that a young puppy must be closely supervised at all times and should be either confined in a crate, a small play area or tethered near you wherever you are working. You can also tether the puppy TO you so that it moves around as you do, but however you do it, puppies should not be left alone or allowed free reign of your house or yard. It very specifically explains how to schedule feeding times, playing times and elimination times. Puppies also need lots of socialization and experience with new things so that they don't grow into fearful adults, so actually tying a puppy up in the yard and leaving it all day is the exact opposite of what it needs. Yes, if you leave a pup tied up all day, every day it will definitely negatively impact the dog.
