Hello I am new at the forum and puppy training

My husband and I adopted our sweet puppy Lila yesterday from the Humane Society. She is almost four months old and a Lab Mix. We started right off in training her but I am having such a hard time (even if it is very early on) as she is so timid and shy. We have been giving her lots of love and encouragement however she is still scared of just about everything. Any ideas on how to build her courage? Thanks so much for any advice in advance.

You just got her yesterday. Give her a week or two to figure out what her new world is like. Be very gentle with her and use only positive reinforcement training. I prefer clicker training. Never jerk on her leash. Never use a pinch collar nor a choke chain. Don't push her into doing anything. Let her learn things at her own pace. Encourage her and motivate her to perform the behaviors you want her to.

Bill is right. My little mix used to be afraid of EVERYTHING especially men. but now with lotsa love and time he has blossomed into the perfect dog, he doesnt even mind men anymore. only things hes afraid of now is manhole covers on the sidewalk and sidewalk grates. Had him since he was a young pup and hes three years old now. It took some time but it was worth it.
