Alaskan Malamute puppy owner Jules (UK)
Hello! Just followed a link from an ad and thought I'd check out the site. Not browsed around yet but I will do after this :)
My name is Jules. We own a just turned 5 month old Alaskan Malamute puppy (looks like a husky...since most people know what they are thought that would be easier to mention)
We brought him home when he was exactly 8 weeks and he's doing really well...growing very fast! He's nearly the size of a German Shepherd already and still got lots more growing to do! Can't wait til he's a big boy so I can start working him :)
Just thought I'd say hi anyway! Let me know if you have a Mal too as I'd love to hear your stories good or bad!!
Speak soon,
Jules x
P.s. I'm sad enough to have a fan page for Hudson so my friends can see how he's getting on without me using my own page to always go on about him on etc. Check it out and "like" if you have time Alaskan Malamute | Facebook
Little Missie - Our 5 Month Old Alaskan Malamute
Carl and I were very fortunate to get "Baby Missie", a 5 month old female Alaskan Malamute at 14 weeks old. She came from a breeder in Nakina, Ontario, called Nimki Alaskan Malamutes...she has a website online if you want to check it out.
Our baby girl is going great. She just lost one of her baby teeth last weekend while playing with a chew toy. It was so funny to hear a "ping" and find one of her teeth across the room on the floor. She didn't have any pain but there was some blood.
Our girl is very smart yet very stubborn. She is still having accidents in the house and it has been a challenge to potty train her. I'm sure she knows what has to be done but she continues to defy us. Everyone has said to be patient and soon it will come.
Missie went through an 8 week obedience training course which just ended last week. She is listening more but the schools 'techniques' must be practiced continually. It is an ongoing process. She really enjoyed socializing with the other dogs. I may take her back for more classes in the future. It really wasn't all that expensive - 8 classes for $85.00.
I would like to hear from anyone out there that owns this breed of a dog to share and compare stories.
My little bundle of energy!
Hi Jules! My name is Molly. I recently got an Alaskan Malamute myself! He is adorable. He's 10 weeks old and has so much energy! I'm having a really hard time potty training him and stoping him from biting me.
The potty training started to work. I figured out an area he liked to go on and set up a little piddle pad station. He started to get the hang of it and i rewarded him for doing a good job. But every now and then he'll go in a completely different area or miss the pads by inches! I have a off white carpet which sucks! Haha.
As far as biting goes, I've tried a lot of things. I know I've only had him since this past Tuesday, but what I'm doing to get him to stop blows up in my face. I've tried ignoring him, growling at him, holding him down as if its another dog asserting its dominance over him, and yelling ouch! to startle him. But he's come to think that me yelping is a game. I've read on this forum a couple other ideas on how to get him to stop. But I'm running out of ideas.
I know it'll take time. He doesn't know better and I need to have a lot of patience. But if you have any tips it would be much appreciated!
Thanks!Attachment 592
