I'm a new member and have a dog with very bad separation anxiety!

    Hey all!

I have a 11 year old German shepard/ Siberian Huskey with HORRIBLE separation anxiety. I mean, she has resorted to jumping out of windows when I leave. We have tried to put her in a big enclosed crate, which she loves. But she has learned that she can pull the metal door back and break it open. She finally destroyed the crate and now we leave her in my old bedroom when the family leaves. (I dont live at home with her anymore) But i see her 2 times a day and take her places with me. She has always been a runner, well since i moved out, she has resorted to running away at least 2 times a week. I just dont know what to do anymore. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE HELPFULL!!!! Thanks all!!!

What other symptoms of SA is she displaying? What happens when she runs away? Does she come back on her own? Can she escape from the bedroom? Is she damaging the bedroom?

She has pulled up all the carpet in the bedroom. But we cant leave her out because she will go to the bathroom in the house. Usually on a bed. When i go visit she wont leave me alone. But thats really it. Before we got her she was abused, so im not sure if that has some thing to do with it? We have had her since she was 3, she's 11 now. Shes always ran away, since the day we got her, she used to stay gone for days at a time. But now that shes older, she stays close to home, but does not come back on her own. She has a few times, but we usuall yhave to go find her. Or the rescue kennel in town will call me and let me know that someone turned her in there. (i used to work there). But when i am there and if i stay the weekend, she is fine and wont act out at all. Ive tried leaving my clothing and a blanket that i used all the time with her, she lays on it all the time, but I dont think that it does anything for her. We tried leaving her out of the bedroom, thinking maybe she was just cooped up, but she just goes to the bathroom in the house and tears things up. Gets in the trash. I just dont know what to do anymore.

How long has she behaved like this? Only since you left home?
