Post New and problem with my dog that runs away by the window

    Hello

I would like to introduce myself, My name is Miray.. I am french but lives in London for 20 years now. I always had dogs and 3 years ago I got a beautiful puppy .. a bull mastif for my husband. His name is Vibz and he is a very clever dog.. My husband is really good with him and Vibz listen to him really well. Recently when my husband came back from the gym, Vibz welcomed him at the car which meant he manage to escape the house . In fact he opened the door of the front room and then open the window which is quite tricky to open and escape. Today he did it again but this time he escape and was back inside the house before my husband arrived.. my husband knew he escaped again because not only the window was open but also Vibz walk in the mud and left marks everywhere. We don't know why he does escape suddenly and start to open the windows.. maybe because he is alone for a couple of hours and he is anxious.. and we don't know what to do to stop this behaviour. My husband is very worried to leave him alone now and that something bad could happen. If anyone has a solution or had a similar situation I would love to hear from you.

    Many thanks

    Miray

I guess there is a reason you can't lock the door to the front room and/or lock the window?

Hi Miray, I would buy a lock for the window, or else lock the door so he cannot get to the window. It seems odd to me that you have had him 3 years and the behaviour is just starting up - has anything else in his routine changed? the amount of time you leave him, his walks etc? Also just curious which part of London are you in? I'm in Wembley

    Hi Stephanie

Thanks for this.. We can't put a lock in the window.. the way it is done it is not possible.. I thought about putting it on the door, it is a tricky old door.. I know ! but I thought of changing his toys around and hide them as well as leaving the little bedroom upstairs open so he can look in the window.. He used to do this but my husband decided to stop him going.. this is what changed in the last month. Since My husband started to do this ..it seems that Vibz stopped trying to run away, I think he started to be bored that is the reason and he doesn't like to be alone.. so he loves watching through the window.. I hope he won't do it again... I live in Wimbledon and my husband in Clapham.

    Thanks a lot

    Miray
