\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n <!-' + '- google_ad_section_start -' + '->I\'ve had big dogs most of my life for protection as well as company. Only 2 weeks ago I had to bury my 2 16-yr-old chow furkids Joy and Freedom; after struggling through their final days, I realized in my own later years now I need a single small dog that will be so much easier to take care of. Some friends gave me a little 10-week-old beagle/pomeranian mix, and I love her to pieces. Named her Molly Maguire. Instead of a small crate I wanted Molly to have much larger general quarters that would also look good in the living room. So I bought a second-hand white spindle (even on both ends) baby bed and puppy-proofed it for her. It looks very nice and she seems pretty satisfied with it.\r\n
\r\n
\r\nOf course there\'s a slight problem. This is the first full day at her new home, and Molly misses her litter mates even though she was the smallest pup and probably got shoved around a bit by the others. She loves it when I carry her around, but even loose on the kitchen linoleum, she finds a corner and hides. I can\'t get her to play for exercise at all. Outdoors she has to be on a long tether because so far she\'s short enough to crawl under the porch and get stuck. After she grows a few more inches I can turn her loose to explore while I do my yard work, which due to the heat wave has to be from 5 a.m. to 6 or 6:30. Then it\'s indoors & a/c for the rest of the day.

\r\nI tried rolling a cookie filled kong toy around the kitchen floor; she just sat and looked at it. If it would work, I\'d be happy to lead her around and around the kitchen table to get her moving, but she hasn\'t shown any following instinct yet although she certainly knows how to call me to HER. Passive-aggressive little twit! She\'s used the newspapers on the kitchen floor to pee but I haven\'t yet seen anything solid come out of her. She seems to consider her Potty Patch a dandy bed. Maybe I shouldn\'t have added a coco-mat lining to supplement that little scrap of fake grass. My one consolation besides her sweetness is that she does like to eat, especially venison.
\r\n
\r\nBut somehow I\'ve got to get Molly\'s little legs moving for a lot of reasons. She CAN walk, just prefers to hunker down so far. Absolutely loves to be held so she can rest her chin on my shoulder and lick my cheek. Soooo... if anyone out there has any idea how soon she might start frisking about for needed exercise or how I can hasten the day, give me a holler. How long do little dogs like her keep missing the first family? I don\'t expect her to behave like a chow; they come from the womb with a regal boldness that I\'m much more familiar with handling. I don\'t want to fail my little Molly Maguire, though.<!-' + '- google_ad_section_end -' + '-><!-' + '- AMS FIRST IN POST -' + '->\r\n
