Want to Save my Dogs from Ticks

Hi All, I have 3 lovely dogs. They all are very active and intelligent. They always take part in dog shows that are organised time to time. But the problem here is that they all are covered with ticks from head to tail. There are huge massive ticks and little ones too. I have tried several times pulling them off by topical treatments, collars, baths but all my efforts are in vain. They do not seem to disappear; they all are still covered with ticks. It is absolutely disgusting. I love my sweet puppies and worried very much about their health. Please help me.

Ticks pose a serious health threat to dogs. You will want to consult with your veterinarian right away to determine the proper course of action to rid your dogs of their current unwanted passengers. The veterinarian will also be able to recommend the best preventative measures for your area. Over-the-counter preventative measures include products such as Frontline Plus and Advantix II, both relatively inexpensive, monthly topical solutions that you apply to a small spot on your dog's back, but this needs to be done consistently and in advance of an infestation actually occurring. Once your dogs have ticks, the topical applications will no longer work nearly as effectively. You may also need to address the dogs' living conditions, including spraying yard and kennel areas with some form of chemical or natural pesticide. Either your vet or a professional pest control service may be able to offer some environmental treatments that will keep your dogs' living spaces clear of pests but will not pose a health risk to the dogs.

Again, I strongly encourage you to speak with a qualified veterinarian immediately. Alas, I am just a trainer and cannot make medical recommendations

Ticks are bad news: They transmit several diseases that can cause severe illness and even death in both dogs and humans, so keeping your dog tick-free is a top priority. To remove a tick, follow these steps:

1.) Use a pair of tweezers to grasp the head of the tick where it attaches to the skin.

2.) Wear gloves if you plan to use your fingers to remove the tick.

3.) Pull on the tick gently and steadily. If you yank the tick away from your dog too quickly, you’ll leave part of the tick’s mouth behind, which can cause an infection.

4.) In about 20 to 30 seconds, the tick’s mouth will release its grasp and the tick will come away cleanly.

5.) Dab some disinfectant on your dog on the bitten area, being extremely careful if you’re around your dog’s eyes.
