Being of a small stature the average height of a Shih Tzu is 11 inches (Males & Females) and the average weight is between 9 – 16 pounds (Males & Females). With a long thick double coat, this pet can often be seen as a bundle of fur covered from head to paw. Its coat can be in any solid color and often looks like an energetic and bouncy cloud if its coat is kept untrimmed.

\r\nThe puppies of this breed can be difficult to housebreak but makes up for it by being an excellent watch dog. With firm and gentle training, the Shih Tzu will prove to be an excellent pet that is playful, happy, brave and loving. They can be sociable with non-canine pets and will make friends easily. This pet also prefers to be with its family and will dislike being left alone. This clever and energetic little dog requires a lot of exercise and will do well with outdoor space to run and play in.

\r\nThe Shih Tzu is vulnerable to infections in the eyes, ears and teeth and should have regular checkups with the vet. This breed also tends to snore and overeat. Being sensitive to hot weather the Shih Tzu will require shade and water to be kept available.
