    Kristen,we only got our 2 Jr 12 days ago (wednesday)our daughter took them to the vets on the thursday for a free puppy check.she was told about the "puppy parties"and the "obedience classes".my husband,daughter and myself took the 2 girls along for the 1st of the 2 "puppy parties" last wednesday. there was only 4 other puppies with their owners.we were very impressed with the information that we were given.the owners were shown how to get the puppies to sit and given a treat when both the owner and puppy got it right.owners had a cup of tea and a biscuit lol and puppy had dog treats.we also done recall and all the puppies were let off the collars to interact with everyone.2nd party is on wednesday.
    \r\nalso ive enroled (my puppy)for obedience classes starting in november.thats a 6 weeks course.they show us the basics like sit,stand,lie,stay,come,walking on and off lead,meeting people adults and children,jumping up problems and biteing plus much more helpful tips.

    \r\n <!-' + '- google_ad_section_start -' + '->To be honest I am not really a \'joiner\' I am more of a loaner, but I believe it is very important to train dogs properly so when I\'ve had young dogs we have been to classes. I joined this group because I had an older dog and it was nice to have the chance to chat with other dog lovers. Now I am helping my neighbour with her two dogs because she is ill, it is interesting to see that she has different methods, but they seem to work.

Group classes are great for socializing, but in my opinion not so good for training. Took my dachshund puppy to a puppy kindergarden class for socialization, but in this particular class it was all big dogs so we didn\'t get much of that either . . . luck of the draw, I guess.<!-' + '- google_ad_section_end -' + '->\r\n

And I really do enjoy talking with everyone here. If I have learned any thing... it\'s not every thing works with every dog/puppy. To me having a dog in my life should be (and is) a pleasure and without proper training life with a dog is very far from pleasurable. However some of the people I met were rather domineering and wanted to impose their ways on everyone. I have no intention of tying myself up in pointless rules and rituals, that isn\'t my way so I didn\'t find that sort of environment very helpful.
