6. Shetland Sheepdog

The Shetland Sheepdog looks like a long-haired collie. In the past, the breed was used to guard and herd flocks of Shetland sheep. Its intelligence makes it useful as a tracking, herding, and guard dog. They are highly trainable and are extremely suspicious of strangers. It can also be trained to participate in obedience tests and perform tricks. Fondly called the “Sheltie”, it possesses a two-layered coat—a thick wooly undercoat and a long straight outer coat. They need regular brushing to prevent matting. It is a seasonal shedder that usually sheds its undercoat during spring and/or fall.
