    Biting when putting on lead

Hi, my dog Buddy is getting better, slowly, with puppy biting,BUT at 4 months old, bites when we put on lead. Yhis could be excitement. I walk away and walk is not happening when this happens, however its more of a problem when we are out and I want to put him back on his lead, he bites and its a wrestling match to clip his lead on. any suggestions please?

I am interested in any replies on this. My border collie has been doing this from the first day we got him. It is excitement thing a far as he is concerned, and if you have ever watched Crufts, many of the collies seem to go for their leads too............

What I do is just drop the lead and let him wrestle with it by himself. When he realises I am not holding it any more he drops it, so I go to pick it up again and he starts again so I drop it again.......it goes on like this 3-4 times then he gives up. I guess an excitable puppy would be more less likely to give up so quickly though.

I am wondering if you could treat this as you would a puppy chewing. Take away the lead with a correction and replace it with something they are allowed to bite and toss about.
women and cats will do as they please,
men and dogs need to get used to the fact.

    biting lead

Hi, have read replies with interest,Buddy seems worse when my husband is trying to put lead on, though he has got HUGE hands, so that could explain that.My biggest concern is how to stop him biting and struggling when I want to re attach the lead when he has been off lead when we are out off lead... it becomes a wrestling match!!
