    I've seen those thundershirt commercials and am really curious about them, so let us know if they do any good. My current dogs aren't afraid of much, so I haven't had a problem, but with past dogs, I've had a couple. My first beagle would hide under the bed until she felt secure again.

    Yes, I once had a dog that hid under the bed when there was a storm, I think she felt safer under there.

    Dogs love corners and such anyway. She just ran there right away. My other beagle later didn't like the noises, either, but she wanted to be held, which I was happy to do. :}

    Some dogs like corners, some manage to be under your feet all the time! I do understand why they seek somewhere dark and hidden when they are afraid.

    That is certainly true about getting under your feet. My dog always manages to be in the way, I spend my life stepping over and around her.

    I am also curious about the Thundershirt. I have read about them but never heard of anyone who tried it yet. I hope that it is helpful. It is hard to see them uncomfortable and not knowing exactly what to do to calm and reassure them. The pacing, panting and hiding... even the look in their eyes... I think that the worst part is that because they are afraid, they could try to "run away" from the storm and get lost.

    I agree it is upsetting to see a dog so upset and afraid and it is not always possible to be there with the dog when there is thunder. I always feel very worried if I know that she is alone and afraid.

    It makes for good cuddling time. I hate it when they are scared, but when their instinct is to run to you, it's so heartwarming.

    Still waiting for the delivery of the thunder shirt. They say it should be here soon. The only thing that seems to help my dog is putting him on his chain. For what ever reason he is happy to go on and feels a lot more secure about the thunder, gun shots, and what ever seems to get him going. At least he doesn't try digging or running when he is on his chain.

    I think it's that feeling of having something on you. That extra padding or cushion or secure rattle, if you know what I mean.
