I usually just go with the flow. With the carrots, I don't have to think or worry about it as much as I do when I use regular treats.

    Dog Treats

You can use treats such as animal-based chews bones in training your dog. Doing so will help you to train him o make him obey your commands. If he did it correctly, give him treats to let him know that he did a good thing. Do not forget to praise him.

Goodness Bill, that seems tiny tiny tiny.........something that small would get lost in my boxers jowls...lol... my treats are the size of the nail on my pinky or small finger. I use cooked meats for treats - liver, kidney, heart, chicken, etc...

Admittedly, I did exagurate A LITTLE, but the treats I use are about 1/4 the size of a pinky nail or a little smaller. I have used these size treats on dogs of all sizes including my Great Danes. Size of treat seems to have no effect on their value to the dog. I think taste does. I want to use something small enough that the dog doesn't have to take time to chew them. I often rapid fire treat and have the dog working fast. I can treat as many as 10 times in less than a minute. You can't do that if the dog has to take time to chew them.

I've never used cooked meats but sounds like a good idea if you can cut them small enough. I have used hot dogs but can't cut them as small as I'd like.

Bill what do you keep the treats in? I have seen some dispensers for training treats at the pet shop, but I have never thought of using anything like that. I am just curious, if you give up to ten treats in a minute you must be able to get at the treats very quickly.

I do know that when I was training my dogs I used those bite size Milk Bone treats. Worked great.

Depending on where I am I will either have them in a "bait bag" or just in a bowl on a table if im inside. I will have 10 or more treats in my hand when I begin a run of reps. Then I will pause, let the dog rest a few seconds while I "reload".

IMO they are much too large and the dogs have to take time to chew them. I like to pop a treat in their mouth and they swallow.
