Our cat came to us as an old and very sick stray, he was so sick that we didn't think he would survive and his his teeth were so bad that the vet said that they had to come out. My kids decided to name him Dave after Grandad because he also has no teeth. Everyone says it is a cool name for a cat.

Beware of kids coming up with names for pets, it can cause embarrassment! My son had an obsession with superman and he named his guinea pig Superman. My husband had to take the guinea pig to the vet and he was horrified when the vet walked into the waiting room and called for Superman! Now if the kids choose an embarrassing name the pet has a vet name and a home name.

Grandad was rather flattered that the cat was named after him, he could see the funny side of it. It doesn't cause problems because the cat is Dave and he is David.

Justontime we have also had a few embarrassing moments at the vets, now we have rules about names; it has to be a name I could say in public without embarrassment, and it can not have a dubious meaning.

Haha! Does that mean you'd have to say Grandpa David just to avoid confusion?

My husband and I love the name Lillian. So when we got a Yorkie we named her Lilly.

I had a few names in mind when I picked him up (Tucker,Murphy, and Gunner). When they opened his crate and he ran to me I called out all the names, one by one...Tucker - nothing! Murphy - nothing! GUNNER - he responded right away....so there you have it!
Its a little ironic as I am in law enforcement...ha

My mum adopted a dog called Timmy, his name was a bit of a problem because shortly before her much loved dog also called Timmy had died. The new dog knew his name and as he was very insecure the dog rescue people were keen that she should not change his name, so he became Timmy Two. We have made an effort not to compare him with his namesake and now (he is an old man now) he has become a much loved dog with his own character and personality. It is not ideal to name one dog after another, but when it happens by chance it doesn't have to be a problem.

Dandy's mother is a teeny (27lbs) purebred border collie. Now, either his father is the overlarge (about 60lbs) purebred male bordie that also lives on the farm and Dandy and his sister are throwbacks; or else a tall, dark, and clearly handsome stranger climbed in the window one night with a rose between his teeth. out of a litter of 11 (!), 9 were teeny-tiny perfect little black-and-white border collies and then there was Dandy and the only female, three times the size of the others and looking like 2 crows in the nest.

    who cares.

he was a nippy little sod when i got him as a rescue - the Feet Thing - so i named him "Dandelion", which is from the French "Dent de Lion", meaning "Lion's Tooth". Dandy is perfect for him, what with his trout-spotted tuxedo markings and his "i'm all that and a bag of cow chips" attitude.
