    Hi, Everyone :-)

Hi, folks..My name is Debbie...but I'll go with Deb on this forum :-) I have been a dog lover all my life...I love dogs AND all animals, actually..We have two cats: and a 4-5 month old half Jack Russell Terrior; 1/4 Chihuaha; 1/4 Dachound puppy, which we adopted when he was about 8 weeks old..The reason I say approximate, is that the Vet Tech that gave Barney (that's his name) his last set of shots, just over a week ago, put his age at 4-5 months old..My husband and I love Barney dearly: but I know I'll be needing help in training him..He is house trained: and is generally a good puppy: but he gets very hyper at times, and will nip us (and draw blood)..Barney is not a viscious puppy: but he gets so hyper: he can't control himself at times..I take him for daily walks: and he has a large yard to run in..He LOVES tug play with his rope toys :-) I also hve concerns about the fact that he will eat ANYTHING that will fit in his mouth..He chews on our backyard bushes...will eat rocks, bark, etc..I'm amazed we still have Barney, with all he eats! We TRY and puppy proof our backyard: but it is impossible to totally puppy proof it..I wonder how long this chewing/eating everything that fits in his mouth, stage will last..He has a huge amount of chew toys: so that isn't why he chews everything he can get to in our yard..Anyway, I recently lost a nearly 16 year old black Pug: Sadie was her name..That dog was wonderful! I am so glad to have found this forum

    I have the same problems

    Hi deb:
I read your post about your dog and I could really relate. I have a 4 month miniature snauzer that is so hyper and anxious att times. I also walk her (chloe) twice a day which helps but it also depends on the weather. Chloe is also constantly in the back yard looking for leaves or is walking around the yard with a long branch in her mouth. I just said to my husband yesterday that Chloe would rather eat branches then her dog biscuits. I loved it when I ready your story. Now I know Chloe is not the only dog to do this
    Welcome to the forum!

Hi! I understand...I have a three month old cattle dog pup and he gets very hyper at times too especially in the evening even though he gets walked several times a day. I have found that when he gets wound up, I put him in his sleeping crate for a half hour or so and he's a completely different puppy when he gets back up. I have also taken away the tug toys because I think that makes him want to nip more. I have also taken away the soft chewey toys as because he has a tendency to think I am a chewey toy too!! LOL I mostly let him have bones and hard toys that he can't chew apart. I can't wait until he's out of this stage but I love the little guy!
