Hi, I'm Jack. Am doing research to learn how to train my future puppy before I get him/her.

Hello Jack, welcome to the forum. Well done for thinking ahead and making sure you are well prepared. What type of dog are you planning to get?

Thank you. We are thinking of a Cavalier King Charles. Nothing too small, nor too big. However, I have to admit I'm having second thoughts when I think about all the doggies out there that need a good home. I wonder, if I'd be happier with a pooch from the local SPCA.

I have adopted a number of mixed breed dogs over the years and I don't regret a single one of them. It would be borth having a look at the shelters you will be surprised how many really nice dogs are waiting for adoption.

Hi to everyone - I'm new to the form. Looking forward to sharing ideas and thoughts with other dog lovers. I have 2 mixed breed rescues and think they are great dogs. I also volunteer at our local shelter and agree that there are wonderful dogs there just waiting for homes.

Cavies are very nice dogs. The advantage to getting a purebred from a reputable breeder is that you know what you are getting and the breeder will help you out -including taking the puppy back if necessary. When I was breeding (Staffordshire Bull Terriers) I once took a six year old bitch back because of a divorce in the family. Stuff happens sometimes. I have also gotten very nice dogs from the shelter but it is kind of a gamble, especially if you get a puppy you have no real idea what the grown dog will be.
